Some more pics from our trip to Duluth over Labor Day…
Greater Swiss Mountain Dog
Kubla’s Amazing Talents
We were up in Duluth last weekend, which gave Kubla a chance to play in Lake Superior.
He also demonstrated his awesome fetching abilities by chasing the thing I threw, then getting distracted halfway there by something else.
Yep. We’ve got a dog who won’t swim and won’t fetch. Good thing he’s cute.
Down by the river
We took Kubla to the Minnehaha dog park on Sunday. This place is awesome – it’s quite a hike through the woods, then you get to the off-leash area, which is a huge stretch of river where the dogs can play in the water. Kubla definitely is more comfortable going into the water, tho he still won’t go very deep.
Kubla isn’t very fast, and he knows it. While the other dogs were madly chasing tennis balls and launching themselves into the river to go after huge logs, Kubla spent a lot of time “chasing” tree branches. The ones that were still attached to the trees. He also likes to pounce on leaves. I think that’s what was happening here…
He did find it fun to chase a stick Josh was tossing for him, as long as the stick wasn’t thrown more than three feet or so.
They grow up so fast
Kubla is 6 months old today.
He weighs 66 pounds.
And, just for reference…
Kubla and Stanley
Kubla made a new friend over the weekend – another Swissy puppy named Stanley!
Stanley lives in Nordeast, and we got together down by the Stone Arch bridge.
Kubla at the lake
He’s not so sure what to do about this “water” thing.
Time Flies
Kubla is five months old today.
He was sick with an upper respiratory infection last week, but he has bounced back and then some. He seems to have entered a new phase of puppyhood, which comes with a new level of energy. He’s starting to get his adult teeth, and he’s well over 50 pounds. He has figured out that our bed is very comfy, even though he’s not allowed in it. So, he just sneaks into it when we’re not looking. He likes to chase Artemis, which we allow because we figure she deserves it. Salem is pretty much indifferent.

My what big paws you have
Kubla and Flex, before we left for California:
Kubla and Flex when we got back:
Kind of hard to tell, but K gained 7 pounds while we were gone. He has tripled in size since we got him.
(Sorry for the photo quality. You try getting two dogs who would really rather be tackling each other to sit still for 2 seconds.)
